The Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), through the Digital and Collaborative Ports Network, in collaboration with the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) of the Organisation of American States (OAS) and the Network of Women Maritime Authorities of Latin America (MAMLa), will hold the IV Hemispheric seminar on port-city relations, social responsibility and gender equality: designing more humane, sustainable and resilient port cities.
The event, to be held virtually on 13 and 14 November 2025, aims to provide a platform for dialogue and cooperation to strengthen socially responsible port operations and promote strategies that foster sustainability, inclusion and gender equality in the sector.
The programme will address topics focused on port-city integration, social responsibility towards seafarers, social innovation, environmental management and training for port personnel. Through its thematic panels, it will promote the exchange of experiences and best practices that contribute to consolidating ports that are more committed to their social and environmental surroundings.
The first day will feature discussions on mechanisms for strengthening port-city relations through urban planning, social and environmental integration, and the welfare, safety and dignity of seafarers. The role of social innovation and multisectoral partnerships as drivers of inclusive port development will also be highlighted.
On the second day, the panels will address environmental responsibility, gender equality, workplace inclusion, as well as training and human development, emphasising the importance of investing in human development as an essential element for the competitiveness and sustainability of the sector.
The event will be attended by port authorities from OAS member states, associate members of the CIP, as well as experts, officials, academics, and representatives from the private and public sectors.
