The Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), together with the Embassy of Colombia in Venezuela, the Association of Ladies of Colombia in Venezuela (ADCEV) and Sinergia - Venezuelan CSO Network, opened on Tuesday the exhibition "Threads of Memory Tended to the Future: Tapestries that untie knots and weave hopes", at the headquarters of the organisation.
"We warmly welcome this activity, which is a small contribution that we hope will add to the task of reconstruction that we want in our countries, in which SELA participates from the perspective of integration," the Permanent Secretary of SELA, Ambassador Clarems Endara, said during his opening remarks. He also called for disseminating this symbolic activity in order to "showcase this cultural expression that is specifically aimed at pushing towards the construction of peace in our countries."
For his part, the Colombian Ambassador to Venezuela, Milton Rengifo, stressed that "weaving helps heal, atones for pain, but also brings aesthetics, the admiration of art. This activity is an example of peace in the face of the conflicts that arise in our countries." He affirmed that we must be grateful for the generosity of the Venezuelan people in receiving Colombians in their most difficult moments; in this sense, he asserted that, at present, "the phrase 'the Peace of Venezuela is the Peace of Colombia' makes a lot of sense."
In addition, the President of Sinergia, Luisa Rodríguez, thanked SELA for opening the space for the exhibition 'Threads of Memory,' as a contribution to the brotherhood of the peoples of the region.
The exhibition "Threads of Memory Tended to the Future: Tapestries that untie knots and weave hopes" is the result of a symbolic reparation exercise carried out by women victims of the Colombian armed conflict. The exhibition will be open to the public, free of charge, from 3 to 5 April at SELA's headquarters, on the 5th floor of Torre Europa, in Caracas, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
