Within the framework of the Preparatory Meeting for the XLVIII Regular Meeting of the Latin American Council of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), the delegations of Mexico and Argentina underscored the progress made in the implementation of the multi-year Work Programme that was approved by the Member States of the organisation last year.
Helietta González, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Mexico in Venezuela, who chairs the Latin American Council of SELA, underscored the efforts made by the organisation to coordinate an agenda with the Member States and allied institutions, in order to make progress in complying with more than 60% of the Work Programme.
“We can really see that there have been very important efforts and a formidable capacity to adapt in a post-pandemic stage (…), and there has been quite substantive progress in the implementation of the Work Programme. We also welcome the greater linkage with regional and international organisations and mechanisms, which is very important to avoid duplicating efforts and to maintain collaboration schemes,” Helietta González said.
For his part, the Ambassador of Argentina in Venezuela, Oscar Laborde, also congratulated the Permanent Secretariat of SELA on the achievements in the implementation of the Work Programme.
“The Secretariat has presented us a very dynamic balance sheet. We understand the difficulties sometimes encountered in carrying out activities and the effort made to achieve them. Our region needs integration. The balance presented leads us towards integration. Hopefully, we will take more advantage of SELA to move towards the integration of the region,” Óscar Laborde noted.
On Tuesday 29 November, the Preparatory Meeting for the XLVIII Regular Meeting of the Latin American Council of SELA was held in Caracas, headquarters of the organisation, to discuss the proposed Work Programme for the year 2023, focused on three work areas: Economic Recovery, Digitalisation and Social Development. The objective is to coordinate positions of the Member States in order to make progress towards integration and development of the region.
