This Friday concluded the VI Conference on International Cooperation of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), at which the Permanent Secretariat of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) expressed its renewed commitment to cooperation and development in the Caribbean.
The Permanent Secretary of SELA, Ambassador Clarems Endara, held meetings with authorities of Caribbean countries to strengthen joint work for economic recovery, as part of the organisation's commitment to membership.
Rodolfo Sabonge, Secretary General of the ACS, recalled that the association was formed 28 years ago to bring the English-speaking Caribbean countries closer to the Latin American countries that shared a common geographical framework: the Caribbean Sea.
The first ACS conference also took place in Havana, “but holding it here carries a more symbolic message, because Cuba is characterised by its solidarity and cooperation with the rest of the world and with the countries of the Caribbean and is currently one of the members most affected by natural disasters,” he added.
Sabonge pointed out that the inequality between developed and less developed countries was exacerbated as a result of the pandemic and its effects, war, inflation and climate change, “which is why we are obliged to redouble our efforts.”
For his part, the President of the ACS Council of Ministers and Foreign Minister of Guatemala, Mario Adolfo Búcaro, assured that the strategies presented at the Conference will have an impact on the economic reactivation of the region.
The VI Conference on International Cooperation of the Association of Caribbean States allowed for the promotion of a regional agenda focused on cooperation for the sustainable development of the Greater Caribbean.
