The Secretary-General of the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS), Álvaro Velarca Hernández, highlighted the contribution of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) in the design and implementation of common solutions and strategies to the major economic challenges of our region, “since this translates into a broad guarantee of rights and is reflected in better living and employment conditions,” he noted.
During his virtual participation at the 50th Regular Meeting of the Latin American Council of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), held on Wednesday 11 December in Caracas, the Secretary-General of the CISS reiterated the commitment to work with SELA, because “international cooperation is the way to improve the lives of all people in all corners of our continent.”
“At the CISS, we have been able to build bridges of collaboration that translate the commitments shared with SELA into actions through a very solid agenda on risks and disasters; we have bet on the construction of stronger institutions and an example of this was our joint efforts in Belize and the Dominican Republic, working with the governing institutions of social security in both countries and not only that, but we have placed at the centre of the regional agenda the guarantee of the right to social security as one of the most powerful mechanisms that States have to generate well-being,” he noted.
During the 50th Regular Meeting of the Latin American Council, SELA renewed its commitment with its Member States and regional mechanisms to achieve more and better integration through a common regional agenda that contributes to the growth of Latin America and the Caribbean.
