The Latin American Council of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), at its 50th Regular Meeting, approved on Wednesday the update of the Work Programme of the organisation for 2022-2026, aimed at responding to the needs of the membership by strengthening convergence for integration and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations.
The planning for the year 2025 is focused on the areas of Economic Recovery, Digitalisation and Infrastructure, and Social Development, with a total of 51 activities.
In the Area of Economic Recovery, 25 activities related to economic integration, trade facilitation and support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) were approved; in the Area of Digitalisation and Infrastructure, 9 activities were defined for digital transformation and sustainable energy infrastructure; and in the Area of Social Development, 17 activities were planned focusing on sustainable and resilient development, integrated disaster risk management, and the promotion of a comprehensive vision of human mobility.
This update, approved within the framework of the 50th Regular Meeting of the Latin American Council of SELA, aims to coordinate positions of the Member States in order to advance towards integration and development of the region.
The Latin American Council is the highest decision-making body of SELA and is made up of one representative of each Member State. Its powers include considering, evaluating and approving the work programme for the following year; the annual report of the Permanent Secretariat; the budget and financial report of the organisation; and reviewing the activities of the Secretariat and the Action Committees.
In its 49 years of uninterrupted work, SELA has become a regional organisation of reference, conducting consultation and coordination, cooperation and joint economic and social promotion tasks, on a permanent basis, with international legal personality, before countries, groups of nations, forums, and international organisations.
