Ambassador Clarems Endara: Convergence strengthens the integrationist vocation of Latin Americans and Caribbeans

The Permanent Secretary of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), Ambassador Clarems Endara, underscored the need to address the challenges of the region through convergence in order to promote development in Latin America and the Caribbean. In this connection, he stressed that “convergence strengthens the integrationist vocation of Latin Americans and Caribbeans, so it must be multi-sectoral, multi-agent, inclusive and transversal to the crucial aspects of the lives of the inhabitants of the region.”

During conference held within the framework of the 31st Anniversary of the Latin American and Caribbean University (ULAC), the Permanent Secretary of SELA provided details on the economic outlook of the region in order to focus on the need to coordinate efforts for the design of public policies to promote development and growth in the countries.

He also stressed the need to work on "divergent agendas" and turn them into "convergent agendas" among regional integration mechanisms. SELA has managed to coordinate joint work agendas with other organisations through the Inter-Secretariat Project, which brings together the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), the Central American Integration System (SICA); the Andean Community (CAN); the Latin American Integration Association (ALADI); the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP); CARICOM and the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organisation (ACTO), to offer concrete responses to the current challenges facing Latin America and the Caribbean.
