Within the framework of the efforts to advance towards regional integration and promote cooperation among the various stakeholders, the XLVIII Regular Meeting of the Latin American Council of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) will be held on 30 November in Caracas.
The objective is to proceed with the approval of the Work Programme for the year 2023, focused on three areas: Economic Recovery, Digitalisation and Social Development. More than 40 activities aimed at the integration and sustainable development of the region are scheduled to be developed.
The Permanent Secretary of SELA, Ambassador Clarems Endara, explained that in the Economic Recovery Area, 21 activities aimed at trade facilitation, SMEs and Economic Integration have been programmed. In the Digitalisation Area, 7 activities have been structured for digital transformation and sustainable energy infrastructure, while in the Social Development Area, 15 activities have been planned, focusing on vulnerability of food systems, migration, and comprehensive disaster risk management.
The XLVIII Regular Meeting of the Latin American Council will be held at the headquarters of the organisation, both in person and virtually. The Preparatory Stage will take place on Tuesday, 29 November, and the Ministerial Meeting on Wednesday, 30 November.
The Latin American Council is the highest decision-making body of SELA and is made up of one representative of each Member State. Its functions include considering, evaluating, and approving the work programme for the following year; the annual report submitted by the Permanent Secretariat; the budget and financial statement of the mechanism; and the activities of the Secretariat and the Action Committees.
In its 47 years of uninterrupted work, SELA has become a regional organisation that carries out permanent tasks of consultation, coordination, cooperation, and joint economic and social promotion, with international legal personality, before countries, groups of nations, forums and international organisations.
