The Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) presented the updated Work Programme for 2023 at the XV Special Meeting of the Latin American Council in Caracas. The Permanent Secretary of SELA, Ambassador Clarems Endara, reiterated the commitment to make progress with the work programme, based on the needs of the Member States, especially in the area of Economic Recovery.
The Permanent Secretary said that during 2022, 35 activities of the Work Programme approved last year were planned, 21 of which have been implemented and 13 were reprogrammed, which represents more than 60% compliance with the goals. Ambassador Clarems Endara described each of the activities carried out and planned, highlighting the importance of articulating with other regional mechanisms to avoid duplication of efforts and respond more effectively to the objectives set.
The XV Special Meeting of the Latin American Council was attended by the Ambassadors of Mexico, Argentina, Barbados, Bolivia, Cuba, Guyana, Haiti, Uruguay, Trinidad and Tobago, as well as representatives of Ecuador, Honduras, Chile and Peru.
Once the draft Work Programme for 2023 has been approved by SELA's membership, it will be submitted for final approval by the Latin American Council next November.
The Latin American Council is the highest decision-making body of SELA, which annually brings together its Member States to establish the general policies of the organisation and specific pronouncements through decisions approved by consensus.
SELA is committed with its 25 Member States to achieve more and better integration through a common regional agenda among blocs for the development of economic policies that contribute to the growth of Latin America and the Caribbean.
