SELA and CAN sign cooperation agreement for economic development
Lima, March.- The Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) and the General Secretariat of the Andean Community (CAN) will join efforts to help promote sustainable and inclusive economic development in the countries of the region, through technical and institutional cooperation actions in the subjects related to migration flows, labour markets and integration.
The framework agreement was signed on Friday 23 March 2018 by the Permanent Secretary of SELA, Ambassador Javier Paulinich, and the Secretary General of CAN, Walker San Miguel, in Lima, Peru, within the context of the Regional Meeting on Migration and Migration Policies in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The parties will carry out technical and institutional cooperation activities through the following mechanisms: a) Collaboration with studies and projects among officials and collaborators of SELA and officials, consultants and specialists of the CAN; b) Organization of meetings, seminars, workshops and advisory, aimed at deepening progress in areas related with the promotion of sustainable and inclusive economic development in the region and other issues of mutual interest, as well as the conduction of cooperation activities, work programmes, professional exchanges and sharing of printed and electronic materials that are relevant for both organizations.
The Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) is an inter-governmental regional organization that seeks to harmonize common economic strategies and cooperation among its 26 Member States; and the Andean Community (CAN) is a subregional organization made up by Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, which have a common objective: to achieve integral development through Andean, South American and Hispano-American integration.
